Manhattan terminal serves NCL Norwegian, Carnival Cruise Line and Holland America. The following NY & NJ cruise port map shows the locations of all three cruise terminals (NYC's Manhattan and Brooklyn, and Bayonne NJ's Cape Liberty). If you're driving, follow signs from the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel or the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway to the cruise ship terminal. The cruise terminal has it's own parking, but you should consider taking a taxi instead.

By downloading the app, you can call a car on demand, anywhere in the New York/New Jersey area. So even if you are flying into Newark or staying outside the city proper, you can still get a ride. The good news is that in a city with a mature transportation network like New York, you have a number of options in getting to the port.

Brooklyn, NY

It is important to note that these rates are always subject to change, and it is always recommended that you check the NYCruise.com website prior to your sailing. If you would prefer not to fly, but don’t live close enough to drive, arriving by train can be a very viable option. New York City has two train stations – Penn Station, and Grand Central Station – with taxis, and other rideshare options readily available to transport you to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. If you’re sailing with Cunard, MSC Cruises, or Princess Cruises out of New York, your cruise will be departing from the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.

Cape Liberty, NJ

They don’t provide their own source of transportation to thecruise port, but the front desk is more than willing to help arrange anaffordable ride on cruise day. Since the hotel is just a little over two milesfrom the port, a taxi shouldn’t cost much. Several rental companies have desks at LaGuardia airport, making it easy to get a rental car after landing, but you can use any rentalcompany you want. We recommend using one that has an office close to the cruiseterminal so that it’s easy to turn it in before your cruise leaves. From LaGuardia, expect to pay somewhere between $28-$38 fora taxi to the cruise port. Note this might include certain surcharges from theairport itself (peak times and overnight).

Currently, NYC's Manhattan Cruise Terminal serves CCL-Carnival, NCLH (NCL-Norwegian, Oceania, RSSC-Regent Seven Seas), TUI,  Virgin Voyages and other major companies. Cape Liberty Cruise Port is also in New York Harbor but is part of Bayonne City (New Jersey). Cruises departing from Brooklyn go to England, Canada, New England, the Caribbean, Greenland, Scandinavia and Australia.

Hotels Near the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal

The Nu Hotel, New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge, and Aloft Hotel are all located in Downtown Brooklyn, a short cab ride away from the terminal. Hotels in midtown and downtown Manhattan are less than 30 minutes from the cruise terminal by cab, making them good choices if you want to explore Manhattan before your cruise departs. Most cruise lines will offer shuttle service to the cruise terminal, but if you're traveling with a group you might find it more cost effective to take a cab. At the La Quinta Inn & Suites in downtown Brooklyn, you’ll have easy access to all that Brooklyn has to offer, and you’ll be just under two miles away from the cruise port.

Park Slope is a residential area with boutiques, bars and restaurants about a 15-minute drive away. The Columbia Street Waterfront District is dotted with small parks, restaurants and boutiques and is just under a 10-minute drive from the terminal. The cost of parking varies, depending on your duration parked in the lot. You'll pay your parking fee when you arrive back at the port before exiting. Payments can be made with Mastercard, Visa or American Express. There are rates for short-term (four hours) and overnight (up to 24 hours) parking.

Cruises from Brooklyn are easy to get to from Manhattan and from all over the region. And the borough has more attractions for cruise passengers than you might think. From Coney Island to the Botanic Gardens, Brooklyn has plenty to explore before or after your voyage. The restaurants of Brooklyn Heights, art in DUMBO, the Brooklyn Museum in the Slope, and the nightlife of Williamsburg are all part of the new Brooklyn charm. Manhattan Cruise Terminal now includes modern adjustable gangways and expanded pier aprons to load and unload passengers and supplies with greater speed, comfort, and efficiency.

In autumn are offered "Fall Foliage" cruises to Canada and New England USA. The Brooklyn Cruise Terminal is near a commercial strip, which is located along Van Brunt Street, three blocks from the terminal via a pedestrian gate. From Coney Island to the Botanic Gardens, Brooklyn has a surprising number of attractions for cruise passengers to explore before or after their voyage. If you’re coming from La Guardia, your fees are going to bemuch less than from the other airports. Just like with a taxi, when you order an Uber or Lyft rideyou pay for the car, instead of per person. And most Uber or Lyft cars can takeup to four or five passengers, depending on the size of the vehicle.

Find the list of itineraries and start dates at the bottom of this page from MSC Cruises. Connecting to Con Edison power grid, the shorepower system allows ships to run their onboard systems without using diesel generators. This eliminates ~1500 tons of CO2, ~95 tons of NOx, and ~6,5 tons of soot/particulate matter annually. As of September 2016, NYCEDC has responsibility for the system's operations and maintenance.

A large selection of artisan stores and unique restaurants are there to welcome visitors into the artistic community. Like much of Brooklyn, this port is something old that has been converted to something modern. In the 1950s it was an industrial freight terminal and before that, it was a primary site for the Atlantic Basin Iron Works. Today, the bustling port welcomes 50 or more cruise ships every year and over a quarter of a million passengers. Once you’ve left port, transportation for anywhere in the city you wish to go is readily available. Passengers who are just docking there for the day should consider cruise-sponsored shore excursions that drive to the key attractions.

Dedicated embarkation and debarkation areas allow passengers to get on the ship without waiting. In its first year of operation, the 182,000-square-foot Brooklyn Cruise Terminal welcomed 40 ships and added 330 new permanent jobs to the Brooklyn waterfront. Awarded “Best US Homeport” by TravelAge West magazine, New York City has been serving cruise passengers longer than any other US city. In 2004, to secure its position as a first-class passenger terminal, the City of New York began a program of $200 million in capital investment at the cruise terminals. The upgrades at Manhattan Cruise Terminal allow Pier 88 and Pier 90 to serve the world’s biggest ships.

In this case, they run only from area airports to the Brooklyn Terminal… and only on the day of sailing. So if you come in early or are staying at a hotel in the area, then the cruise line transfer isn’t a viable option. For example, Princess offers shuttles between all three major airports (Newark, LaGuardia, John F. Kennedy) for $29 per person, each way. That’s actually a reasonable rate, however, it soars quickly since the rate is per person. If traveling with a larger group, we suggest other means to the port. If you are coming from an area airport to the Brooklyn Terminal, then picking up a cab at the airport is easy as they all have taxi stations where you can hop in.

The MSC cruises to Canada and New England are round-trip and 10 or 11 nights long. The Princess Cruises from Brooklyn to Canada and New England depart in August, September and October. See the fall foliage on stops in ports like Halifax, St John, Bar Harbor, Boston and Newport.

However, as a general rule expect it to be a better value the larger a group you need to transport. Be sure to shop around before selecting a service as it can save you considerable money. The two most frequent visitors to the Brooklyn Terminal are Cunard Cruises (Queen Mary 2) and Princess Cruise Lines. Fortunately, it will also take you from Brooklyn to a number of (warmer) locations.

Port Manhattan (4 berths on 2 piers - numbers 88 and 90) is located on Manhattan Island's western coast, beside the Hudson River. Port Brooklyn (1 berth) is located approx 6 mi (10 km) to the south, on eastern Upper Bay on Brooklyn’s Red Hook waterline. The cruise terminal in Brooklyn, New York is located in Red Hook, opposite Governors Island. The Brooklyn terminal complex includes a rebuilt building, bollards and fenders, an internal roadway, a 500-car parking area, and taxi and bus drop-off areas. The terminal is small and not very busy, and it’s close to so many fun attractions and restaurants. Even if you just drive down early on the day of your cruise, you should have plenty of time to do a little bit of sightseeing around the city before boarding your ship.
